Screenwriter

Short Writer Bio:

Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Nickolas Gilbert grew up in a small university town where he could soak in nature, sneak into film studies screenings, or watch art house and foreign films in a magnificently restored 1920s movie palace. But he was always aware that this picturesque midwestern bubble existed just outside the decay of industrial Detroit. It was this juxtaposition between rural and urban, this yin and yang in the gray space between light and dark that allowed him to find his voice as a screenwriter ā€“ a voice that understands how most things in life are never simply black and white, that understands the potential of story to bring change, and that believes in the transformative nature of film. Drawn to characters facing moral conflicts and power struggles, his stories dance in the space between tension and catharsis. Sometimes tragic, sometimes comedic, his stories awaken the truth. With accolades from ScreenCraft, Page Turner, ISA, and others, he continues to develop narratives that provoke introspection and challenge unjust authority.

Personal Logline:

ā€œIā€™m a filmmaker who tells stories about conflicted characters who face moral conflicts, challenge authority, and navigate complex power dynamics. My stories bring catharsis, often through dark humor, blending drama and social commentary, to explore human transformation.ā€
